Information
Check an appeal status or digital notice safely
Use the Social Security Administration’s own account and appeal tools, keep the exact notice wording, and avoid treating a status screen as a deadline calculation or final legal conclusion.
Check the official status
Social Security expanded its online claim-status information in July 2026. Sign in through the official Social Security site, confirm that the account and claim belong to you, and save only the status wording you need.
Keep the complete notice
Digital notice access can make a notice easier to retrieve, but the complete notice—not a portal summary—controls its stated reasons, instructions, dates, and contact information. Download or print it from the official account when that is safe for your device.
Prepare without guessing
- Copy the exact appeal or claim status and the date you checked it.
- Keep the notice date, stated response date, and source page separate.
- Record any missing document or status question in My Work.
- Use the official appeal path named in the notice or SSA account.
- Seek direct help when the status conflicts with a notice, an expected filing is missing, or timing is urgent.
No deadline calculation. Disability Law Aid does not sign in, retrieve a claim, monitor an appeal, verify receipt, calculate a deadline, or file anything.
